No, I was asking a very specific question!
There no reason why it couldn't be a random ego shield with rfire, one
other low resist and one high resist (in the same way that NPP weapons
can randomly have a couple of slays and a *slay*).
So the random power/sustain on items is just another thing that you
won't recognise if you haven't seen it before, but will if you have. Or
you can *ID* an item to get all the info (and greatly reduce your need

The next question is, assuming you accept this, if you have learned
rFire on a shield, should that allow you to recognize rFire on a
sword and vice versa? I've been toying with the model that you have
to learn each attribute separately for each slot.
In the past, I removed identify entirely from [S]. I mailed the
changes to Leon, and he later told me he incorporated half of them.
More recently I took identify out of NPP. I still haven't decided
exactly how things should work. Perhaps one mistake is to try to keep
things as close to V as possible, hoping that eventually the changes
will migrate there in the far future. For example, I kept the idea of
pseudo, and changed the identify spell/scroll to immediately grant
strong pseudo.
Either you can figure out what it is straight away (as
soon as you see it, or wear it), or you can't - until your skill at
identifying stuff increases.
I don't believe in a "skill at identifying stuff". You should learn
by using, or not at all.

screen? Why would you know FF before you stepped into a pit? These
seem like things you could learn. OTOH, I just checked, and I put ESP
into my list of obvious3flags because it didn't seem worth the effort
to code it properly. :)
