Is it true that Angband opens some files, that it doesn't close when
the main program is terminated? That would explain this behaviour. I
don't know much about programming, but if this is really the cause of
the problem, it sounds to me as if it could be easily fixed. - Can
someone tell me, what lines I have to add where to solve this?

What is true is that sometimes, Windows Crap(tm) opens the fonts the
game uses and never closes them.

I think you can configure Windows to open the stick in a "unmount at all
times and be nearly safe" mode. If you do that, you can just unplug the
stick when you want and let the OS do what it takes to unload the fonts,
be it crashing and rebooting ;)

Yes, this seems to be the problem, I *am* running it under windows. I
have not yet found out, how to change the settings you mentioned -
where can I choose such an option?=20
Thanks for the help

Put the memory stick in the machine, go to My Computer.

Right Click -> Properties

Go to the Hardware Tab. Select the memo stick and click on Properties.

Under the Policies tab you can select whether the drive is optimised for Quick
Removal or Performance ... you want Quick removal if it isn't already
selected.
