That would be hard to argue against, the bend digging I do just lets me
fight where ever I am. You could just as easily move to a walled/doored in
area to get the same effect.
except for the bogus implementation of vaults.
I don't like that either, I have had to pass on several as you can't get in.
As a priest you can quake a few times which usually works somewhat.
I don't even
use earthquake or destruction to set up a battlefield. I haven't made
up my mind about those yet.
This just allows more efficient healing.
If there is no
danger of death, you could be diving faster.
I would just avoid more monsters.
At some point it would become impossible to advance as you could not kill
anything, unless you play a mage/priest with genocide / WoD in which case
you don't need to kill anything anyway
Playing with small levels on is kind of interesting as it allows very fast
diving and reduces the ability of teleportation to get you out of danger.
Playing with no connected stairs is also harder as it limits escape options.
I think Zangband also had an option to have you aggravate which radically
effects gameplay.
You could also try one of Timo's
challenges. Playing without ego-items seems dangerous no matter how
you play!
Not unless you combine it with a time restriction. If you scum until you
have a massive set of scrolls/potions you could take out Morgoth with a MoD,
it would just take a long time. Assuming you can get the HP's to survive a
mana storm of course.
I find it absurd that a mushroom that doesn't harm you when you pick
it up, only when eaten, can hurt a monster when thrown.
It breaks up and releases the juices.
.. the player should told the rules
I would like loremasters in the game, people you could pay to get
information on monsters , weapons, items , etc. , similar to paying for
*identify* in the mage guild now.
I would prefer flavored monsters. E.g., when you see a previously
unknown dragon flavor, it shows up in [say] white and the description
just says "a dragon", and you don't get to know the type until it
breathes or attacks or whatever, though afterward it might show up as
a red dragon if it breathed fire. I'd like the uniques to get the
resistances from their drops rather than be fixed with rFire or
whatever.
All of this sounds cool to me.
