...i have a business with pinball machines in it. almost every patron
i am fortunate enough to have come here, is fun, respectful,
courteous, generous and gracious in every way... except for one.

Just one ? Count your blessings.

this person is a semi-regular, and usually tends to do things that
aggravate, offend, and to some degree, scare the shit out of others in
this shop. this person yells, gets angry, is completely stingy, talks
down to others about their abilities, pays virtually nothing to play
here, sells won credits on the way out the door. this is pretty much
the case everywhere this person plays, but this person is a large part
of the pinball scene here, so i just deal with it.

Scares other customers ? OUT.  Who's running this business, you or customers
?
And you can't measure what he is costing you in lost revenue. Get rid of
him.

keep in mind, my shop is small, so everything anyone does, is right in
my face.

2nite this person walks up to one of the games, gets a quarter stuck
in one of the slots, and presses the coin return in to see about 8
quarters fall out. as this person starts putting those quarters into
their pocket, they say "i love it when a machine pays me to play!"

i look at them, and ask... "you're not really going to keep those for
yourself, are you?". this person replies with a completely snide
"...pssst , hell ya i am".

Unless you made a payout on the game, and should have checked better. Or
customer was just there and lost money and still there and you know who it
is. The quarters belong to dickhead, he found them. Nobody else claimed them
or lost them. And for pete's sake don't ever lose sleep over $2.  You'll
have ulcers by midnight. Save those for real issues.

it's not the money, it's the principle.  i'm so angry, i just need to
vent, and i wonder what other operators would do in that situation.

Not get angry over $2. No principle or anything. You are getting mad for all
the wrong reasons. If a favorite customer found the $2, would you care ?
Don't lose sight of your goal. It's only a job, do your work good. Don't get
lost on crap that won't matter five minutes from now. Find yourself
something important to stress the f*ck out of yourself over.

ok,. i'm done

I'll go with Lloyd on this one. Life is too short, I would just be
happy he is spending time at your establishment, times are tough.
Maybe, get to know him, all might change. He did show you a
malfunction of one of your pin mechs. We are here for reasons, some
good and some bad.

Good-Luck
