I have a 64 North Star that has a 75 ohm sand resistor that is

Rolling over the red button scores a credit.I suspect the sand

eliminate the resistor and wire directly to the bulb? What difference
would it make without the resistor.? If the resistor is needed what
can I use in its place ?

You must have the resistor.  It's a 6-volt bulb being driven by the 25
VAC coil circuit.  Without the resistor the bulb will blow out the
instant you apply power to it.

I recommend using 100 ohm or even 125 ohm,
especially if you put the game on high tap.
