There are just so many variables. Some burn out prematurely, some never seem
to burn out. And things happen. My building had a lightening strike ( or
nearby ) some years back, took out a heck of a lot of light bulbs and 8
switching power supplies in my video games. When I shop a pin, now I toss
the silvered ones and leave the others in place. Hope for the best. LTG :)

I know incandescent lamps are rated for a number of hours. A common
rating is 3,000 hours, which is only 125 days.
So, do pins that are left on a lot really need all those bulbs changed
every year or two?
Does the constant flashing in a pinball machine affect their life? I
suspect it does, but to what degree? I might imagine all that
temperature cycling of the filament is harder on it than actually
being on.
All the vibration in a pin can't help any either, obviously.
On the other hand, the playfield lights on modern games are strobed,
so they're not on 100% when they're on. So that would lengthen their
lives I would guess.
Just wondering if there was any established wisdom out there on the
subject.
Also, it would be really cool if someone could point me to any info
about destructive testing of lamps, i.e. how lamp life correlates to
mean fail time when lamps are deliberately run over their voltage
spec.
Thanks in advance for any insight.
