Try Priceline - you just have to know the max you want to pay and then
you put your credit card in and you only pay if the airline accepts
your price. Just be aware that the routing might really suck and you
have no say in that. You do get to input travel times and days. It's
been a while since I used them so the rules may have changed. Your
other option is to do a standby fare but the market you are travelling
in has pretty high load factors. Generally your fare will be lower if
your travel has a weekend in the middle of it and fares are usually
lower T,W,Th and later in the day. If you are doing an out and back
over a three day period and find anything in the $200-300 range - well
that's about the best you will get.

BTW - sometimes you can save some money by flying to a different
airport (within driving distance) and renting a car. It all has to do
with route demand and load factors, blah, blah, blah.
