Incredible. Thank you very much for sharing these images and your narrative. You sir, are living my dream.
Makes me sad to think that the shuttle program is being mothballed at the end of next year and with it the ability for mankind to service "Hubble" and other satellites. Maybe someone in private industry can work a deal with NASA to "lease" the remaining shuttles, KSC/JPL/Whitesands, and the shuttle crews to keep everyone and everything fresh until the astronauts get drafted for the moon/Mars missions. Near space recovery/repair/retrieval is not something that mankind should discard as being trivial or inconvenient while waiting to go to the moon/Mars.
Not that I wouldn't want to sign up for those trips to the moon/Mars but I think I'm getting close to my "best before" date.
Have a great pinball day,

Star date:09:09:09 on 9/9/09. Today is (finally) the release of the
images from the Hubble Space Telescope from its new set of science
instruments that we installed in May of this year. There will be a
press conference at NASA HQ today, and on the Hubble site
(Hubblesite.org).
I look forward to seeing the observations!
PS Here is my photoalbum of this mission:
