I wouldn't exactly call it starting over, but yes, none of your prior
scores count as soon as you buy an entry in the next highest
division. The main reason is simply because you cannot go back - once
you play in B you can no longer compete in C during that particular
tournament... same goes for moving to A from B. Since you cannot
qualify in the lower division anymore, your scores are removed from
the standings. You don't pay any additional entry fees for doing
this.
I'm still confused. So you in essence forfeit all of your paid for
previous entries, and then you have to re-start paying-for current
entries? Lets say I go, but 10 entries in C. I play so awesome, I
decide to switch to A. I have to re-buy entries in A, or do I get 10
entries in A from my voided C entries?
I'm not complaining either way, I'm just curious about this. I've
always wanted to go to PAPA!
My $0.02 on switching - I think it should be allowed up til the end.
If switching changes things up below or above you, so be it. The ONLY
guarantee throughout qualification is that the top 16 scores at 3am
Sunday qualify. If people want to move around, you just have to play
well enough to cover for that. Division switching isn't the only
reason scores might go away... people can get DQd, or get bored/
frustrated and leave early, or whatever. YOU just have to make sure
YOUR best entry is good enough to be top 16 by the cutoff time. If
you're on the bubble... well, play an insurance entry, or sweat it
out :)
So, now I'm also confused -- if a player leaves, their scores would be
deleted? Wouldn't they just pick the next player in line, in this
case 17th place? Or, if the rules don't allow for that, have a
qualifying field of only 15?
MAN did those YouTube videos look spectacular, by the way :)
If you buy entries in C and decide switch to B, you must then buy
entries in B. There is no carry-over. The divisions cost different
amounts as well.
Much of the debate over removing scores centers on the fact that not
every player plays the same five games, so if Keith Elwin puts up the
number one score on Taxi in C, then moves up to A, he can no longer
qualify in C but his score is still affecting C players because they
are losing points in the qualifying rankings by being below his number
one score on Taxi. This situation would help any C qualifiers who
decided not to play Taxi in this circumstance, because they would not
have to compete with Keith's score.
Hope that helps.
