I thought the wait times to actually play this year (in B and from
what I saw of C) were as good as can possibly be expected. The wait
times to actually buy entries were far longer than in the past, not
sure why.
Well they did sell 300 more entries than last year.
I think part of the problem many people were line just for tokens
cause there ended up only being one machine and it seem to be broken
alot. There was huge amount of people there just to play for fun.
Unless they tear down the old building in front of the facility, the
complex cannot take any more people, at least those driving their own
cars. Parking was crazy this year!
Also, I doubt this will get answered but I'm curious why the
organizers continue to use that fish tales game in the tourney when
EVERYONE who has played it last year in B, this year in C, this year
in B finals agrees it plays like crap and at least 2 of the ones in
the practice bank play great.
Putting up awesome games on better machines prolongs the tournament --
better to have machines that play quickly and get things done, instead
of having them play normally and provide excitement and long lasting
memories. When 450 million wins a four player match on Jackbot, nobody
wins, it's just that someone survived.
How cruel is it to put AFM in C division with smaller flippers? Or TAF
with no outposts? Brutal.
Stealing the elvira ball locks in C division was also interesting.
Pretty wild strategy move for players who don't trust themselves to
lock more than one ball.
In regards to papa losing money, I don't know if this is true, but I
do understand the scale of what is going on, and the amount of money
that would have be put into equipment for projecting the playfields
versus how much better it would make things (and subsequently how much
more interest it would draw) is a drop in a bucket. I personally
could get the entire situation running beautifully - and unobtrusively
for the players - for under $800-$1000, and that's with purchasing and
owning the equipment brand new and for future years. Use cheap crt's
instead of a big projector and it doesn't look so good, but it's even
cheaper. I say do it big and do it right, because over the course of
the equipment's life, it would average out to like $75 - $100 per
PAPA, which is next to nothing.
This is also ignoring the fact he could simply rent or borrow the
equipment. If he came on here and asked someone to donate a projector
to papa, or let him borrow one which he would return in exchange for
free entries that year and a t-shirt, I guarantee there would be
responses. I would personally give him my camcorder and let him use
it for nothing. The screens are something the pinball community so
clearly needs and wants, and every single half-decent camcorder has
this functionality it's just kind of crazy it hasn't been done.
And a lot of the other suggestions would literally cost nothing but a
little organization.
