You can adjust the "throw" of the reset bar on a gottlieb EM. Maybe
you need more throw to get the targets all the way up.

Clean the big tungsten switches on any "reset bank" relays. Also clean
the same switch in the score motor, there is almost always a bank
reset switch in the score motor.

I was having exactly the same problem on my Gold Strike last week. The
big bank of drops attempted to reset but only would make it 3/4 of the
way up and not latch. I cleaned everything and made sure there was as
little drag as possible on the anything that could disrupt the reset.
After some frustration and confusion I requested help and Mike
suggested checking the fuses for the reset coils. There are three slo-
blo fuses on the underside of my playfield. One for each coil I
assume. I discovered one was blown, replaced fuse and voila. Of course
it could be other things but it's always good to check the easy stuff
first and this apparently is not that uncommon.

Thanks Alex and everyone who took the time to try and help me. I just
came from outside after yelling a joyful Woo Hoo!! It turns out that
one of the reset coils had a broken winding wire from the point where
the coil wire goes through the little ring where the incoming wire is
soldered to it. I simply put a drop of solder in the gap to connect
the wire back together avoiding the need to order another coil. I
guess you can't always rely on checking coil resistance when it's
hooked up as it was reading 13 ohms so I never imagined that it was
defective. Disconnecting one of the sides of the coil before testing
it is the only way to get a true reading. Thanks again everybody. This
is a great place for pinball knowledge. Man I'm going to sleep good
tonight.- Hide quoted text -

I never check resistance on coils...not because I don't believe it or
anything, just that I never really felt I had to. I've used an
external power source to connect to the questionable coil since before
I heard of testing resistance...if the coil/solenoid fires it's
good!

Great news that you fixed it...thanks for updating us all!
