Alex,

The drop target reset problem, from my experience, is most probably a
fuse for one of the drop target bank reset coils.  This bank is driven
by two reset coils and each coil has it's own fuse on the underside of
the playfield.

This is a deceptive condition because the bank shows it is trying to
reset because only one coil is firing and your attention goes
elsewhere for a solution.

Let us know if this was your issue.

Hi,
I have been working on shopping out this Gold Strike for what seems
like forever. You ever have a machine that keeps surprising you with
little roadblocks. Broken coil stops, burnt coil, broken brake switch,
Broken EOS switches, missing switch contacts, bad lamp sockets etc.
Typical stuff but I keep discovering things after my latest PBR order
and its driving me crazy.

Anyway I'm getting close now but have a couple little issues to deal
with. When I start a game the rear target bank will not reset far
enough to latch. The drops go up about 3/4 of the way and back down
again. It's weird because if I have the playfield up they will reset
properly. My instincts are to adjust the coil plunger travel but
wanted to seek some advice first.

The second issue is the star rollover triggers the relay that
alternates the lights. I didn't think to check the relay designation
to reference but it's the one with two mini steppers on it. This is
advancing as it should but when it gets to a certain position pops the
playboard fuse. Once again my instincts are the little stepper fingers
may need better alignment as maybe they are touching making contact
across two traces and shorting out? Or maybe I have a socket shorting
out somewhere. With a quick inspection the sockets seem ok.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex

Hi Mike,
Ah, another good thing to check. I know right where your talking
about. There are 3 fuses next to each other on the underside of the
playfield. I only remember because I saw them and thought it was odd.
That may make sense as it attempts to reset but doesn't have the oomph
with a single coil. I hope your right, I love it when it's simple.
Thanks,
Alex

I appreciate all of the input you guys had regarding my Gold Strike
issues. With your help I had both problems solved in minutes. Per
Mike's suggestion I checked the fuses for the reset coils. One was
blown. I checked the bulb sockets again per Jim and Clays suggestion
and discovered a blob of solder on one making contact with the
mounting plate. I knocked that solder blob off, replaced the fuses,
fired it up and I am "golden" (pun intended). Targets reset crisply
without any trouble, target lights advance freely without popping a
fuse. I love it. Thanks again guys. I'm sure I would have struggled
with this one for awhile without your direction. Team Em should be
credited with another wedgie.
Alex
