As fast as my 50th approaches, my eyesight deteroriates. I had my glasses on
and a magnifying light and I still couldn't see 2 bad traces under the
socket that I'd done. It was only when I pulled the meter out and buzzed
every trace again I found them. Not 1 but 2. S*&^T!
Always suspect your own work. Maybe its time to hang up the iron

My collected notes.

Ahh thankyou. (Lloyd I checked and the only common line is the 5Vdc - its
ok). OK Martin I've checked the voltage, diodes and yes the magnets fire
when grounded. I am now suspecting the 74HCT273 on the board as I replaced
it with a 74LS273(socketed) - nowhere near as robust I believe. However
don't have another to check it and I've just ordered some HCT variants
locally here in Australia. These will take a couple of days so I'll pickup
another LS locally to see if it temporarily brings it to life
But what feeds the board? IE where does it connect to in the head for its
signals?
Tony
