Re: Intermittent response from CV Neon Tube

Should read 12 volts, low power, not sure if it goes through the coin door
high power interlock or not. Wouldn't hurt to have that switch on just to be
sure.

If you get a good steady 12 volts DC, then I'd suspect the transfomer, if
not then I'd suspect the 2803. LTG :)

I know similar questions have been asked about this before so I
apologize if this is redundant. I read about 5-6 old threads on the
subject but couldn't come up with an answer.

Neon works intermittently. Switches that activate it are all good.
When it fails it doesn't even work in attract mode.

I took the ramp apart. All connections to the transformer and tube
appear to be good. Transformer looks like the original (Machine was on
a route for 3 years then with collectors...had 1000 plays since last
reset when I got it...I've put 500 on it). Somebody had obviously been
in there before for something though because the rivets had been
removed prior to me buying it.

I unplugged the red and black cable that goes to the transformer from
under the playfield.

When I check voltage at that connector with a multimeter what should I
be seeing? 12 volts? Would it differ with the coin door open or
closed? Should it read consistently or can I expect it to fluctuate a
bit? I'd read that it also powers the eddy sensor.

I assume if voltage is good I should look into a new transfomer (which
would lead me to questions about how to properly splice those cables).
If bad maybe a new 2803 chip?
