It is not just skill. It is the fact that you will use some form of
paint that will not be the same color or thickness as the older "ink"
you are trying to fix. It just won't work.
The score windows can also be covered by laying a few buiness cards in
spot.
If by the metal bar you mean the lift channel slid across the bottom
of the glass just pull it off. It may have been stuck by a rubber
gromet melting with age. Separate with a razor if you must. You can
probably get a close replacement. You can cut to fit one made for
pinball machine backglasses rather than cleaning if it is too pitted.
As soon as it is off you can experiment and judge. Good luck.
