Pardon my Williams ignorance:
1) diodes on the controlled lamps? really?
2) capacitor and resistor on the pop bumper switches - I assume this
is for arc suppression? anyway, all the resistors are toast, so I'll
replace w/ 1/2 watt. Will an electrolytic capacitor be ok, or does it
have to be tantalum?
thanks!

Yup, diodes on the lamp MATRIX (WMS was the only one to use a matrix on the lamps vs. discrete like everyone else.....)
No, the cap and resistor are to give a good pulse to the special solenoids they are attached to. The pops and slings are not high voltage like Gottlieb's were, they fire 'directly' via some 74xx logic chips on the driverboard.
Neither is 'required' for the special solenoid to work, but you might get anemic pops with them. I use electrolytic to replace them, I consider this a 'must do' when working on this era WMS machine.
