thanks. the pictures really don't do justice to the lighting. For
some reason the led light doesn't pick up, and it just kind of looks
like a blog where the color glows in person. I think you're talking
about a cathode tube, but I didn't add one of those. All of the new
lighting mods are just 555 leds in spotlight sockets from
pinballlife. I used holes already in the playfield and pulled the
wires through, secured them, then mounted the sockets in places where
screws were already located. There's a green one on the left by the
playfield multipliers, a blue one going straight up the playfield from
between the flippers, another green one over the plunger lane, a red
one aimed at the upper flipper that is mounted underneath the atom
smasher, and a blue one hidden in the plastics off to the right aimed
up at the right corner. All of these are hooked into the GI circuit
and really light up the game.
The flashers under the backbox are hooked into the lamp underneath the
atom smasher. When you load a ball, the atom smasher and those two
lights under the backbox all flash. The rest of the lighting is leds
all matched to color. You can see where I put what colors in the
photos pretty easily.
The sideart has been discussed.
The two ramps I had were busted when I got the game. I built a vacuum
box using a link I found on this newsgroup. I basically just wiped
the inside of the anti-grav ramp with vaseline, filled it with plaster
of paris, and used a corkscrew to get the mold out. When you actually
do the vacuum part, it's important to set the mold up about two inches
off of the vacuum box so the air can go underneath and pull the
plastic around the edges. I tried several different plastics... and
all were worthless except for PETG, which was AMAZING compared to all
of the others because of its flexibility (and it didn't bubble). I
had a piece shipped in from some place on the internet. The oven was
too small for the ***, so I left the door open and rotated it a
couple times while it was heating. There is no way the heat on the
plastic was even, but as soon as the vacuum turned on, it sucked into
place without a hitch. After that, it's just a matter of cutting off
the excess and grinding it down to size. I put two blue led's right
behind it, and the whole ramp glows blue. Turn the light off, and
it's clear. It's a really nice effect.
I also put williams flipper mechs with bally coils onto it. The bally
flippers were just too clunky for me, so I changed them out. The
white flipper bats glow blue under the blue led's too.
