You get a variety of responses because you have a variety of people here.
And a variety of skill levels. And no one was born knowing how to fix
pinball machines.
For myself, I have an arcade to run, I don't do house calls. So my response
was that some calls simply aren't worth it, and you have to know when to
walk. For someone that repairs games for a living, you may get the tail
light warranty talk. For a hobbyist helping or for profit, you may get
someone wanting to be more people friendly.
And I've had people needing help, I've often told them if they want to bring
their game in here, I'll help them fix it.
I've always promoted and supported pinball, but my living comes first,
pinball isn't my hobby. LTG :)

I sometimes don't get the responses in this group. Everyone talks
about how do we keep the hobby alive and how do we get new people
involved. Then we get upset when someone asks questions and wants to
know how to do things. I can fully understand if you don't have the
time to deal with this. If that is the case, just let the guy know.
A simple reply such as I only have 20 minutes to help you out so I
really need to concentrate on this problem will work. If he still
asks questions after you say that, then just do what you can in 20
minutes and leave as you said you would
Unfortunately, I am not skilled enough (or brave enough) to play
around with a lot of problems on my 3 games. When I get someone to
come fix them (whether its paid or someone just willing to help), I
always ask them if it is okay for me to watch and learn how they are
fixing the problem. I know this sounds so basic to 99% of you, but I
learned how to fix a broken flipper spring and properly adjust
switches by doing this. If someone annoys you that much, don't
volunteer to help. Otherwise look at it as a great way to get someone
else hooked on the hobby.
