I know this is the wrong group, but I didn't know where else to ask. I
just picked up a slot machine from a friend that he some how jammed
the gears. I know it used to work cause I used to play it. He said
that it didn't reset after he pulled the handle so he went to open up
the machine and start oiling. He said after he reinstalled the reels
he pulled the handle and the reel assembly was not set correctly,
thus crossing gears and getting it all locked up.
I need to know if there is a way to release the gearing on just the
handle. Once I get past that point, I should be able to fix everything
else. I have dowloaded a Bally EM mataintence/trouble shooting manual,
but the problem I have isn't listed. I don't see any way of taking the
cabinet apart without destroying it.
For what it is worth, its a 1974 Bally Deluxe Multiplier (4 reels)
Thanks for any help (I respond to pinballfr...@xxxxxxxxxxx but I will
keep a check on my gmail for a few days)

I'm guessing that the handle mech is your problem, not the reel mech.
You need to release the ratchet pawl (held by two,low tension
springs). On your 1974 machine, the handle mech is covered on the
front side with an anti-cheat sheet metal cover. Remove it 2 or 4
screws and you'll see the pawl. Pull slightly on the handle and you
should be able to swing the tooth of the pawl out of the way of the
"ratchet teeth" of the laminated handle mech housing. Then the handle
should be able to go to the rest position. Then you can slide the reel
mech out.
