I'm sorry... totally forgot to add the title name.
It's a 1962 United "Lucky" 16 foot big ball bowler... and it rocks!
I've brought home some of the biggest and baddest pinballs over the
years (MB, TZ, AF, etc...) but honestly, the wife and kids play this
bowler WAY more!
It's a bright and beautiful Sunday morning, and I'm heading down to my
brand new game room to work on this puppy. Life isn't good, it's
great!
Thanks for the suggestions Steve! I'll post my results and check to
see if there are any other tips being added to this thread as the
morning rolls on.

Wow... Thanks Steve!
The rivets on the score motor were all lightly sanded (600 grit),
along with the fingers... then cleaned with alcohol and put just a
light layer of lube on them. I'll do the gutter ball test / each pin
deal and see what I find.
On the 8 pin, all the pins reset after the end of the frame, and the 8
will buzz (again, this only happens about once or twice a game) when I
look at the reset bank, the 8 relay is off. You can manually reset it
just fine every time, and mechanically there is no reason not for it
to catch. It has to be a wiring thing somewhere... like the slight
vibration you mentioned, but I've adjusted that 8 pin relay up, down,
and sideways with no luck.
Is it possible it might be in the 1 thru 10 relay??? That's just a
guess on my part.
Chuck,
Again, the game title may help me or someone else to check the
schematic and track down the issue.
A lot of the logic is common on the United bowlers though. Looking at
an Alamo schematic shows that there is a #8 Relay and #8 Pin Relay.
The #8 relay is tripped anytime the #4 or #5 Relays are tripped, and
that relay has the switch to register a point when counting individual
pins. It also has a switch to tip the #8 Pin Relay, which raises the
pin.
The switch on the #8 Pin Relay is the only switch in the circuit to
the #8 pin, so either that switch is the problem, or you have a short
somewhere. (This isn't entirely true, as there is a switch on the pin
itself, but this NC switch will only prevent the pin from raising, not
cause it to raise when it shouldn't.) You can try placing a piece of
card stock, or some electrical tape in that switch and see if that
resolves the problem, though it sounds like this is an intermittent
problem, so it may take many plays for before you're convinced it is
the issue.
The 1-10 Relay is tripped when all pins are raised, to indicate a
spare or strike. It doesn't cause any pins to raise, so it would not
be involved in your problem.
