I have just bought a project Gorgar, ( my first pinball )
anyway, the right kicker Solenoid just started Locking on as soon as

I disconnected the two local kicker switches, and it still continued,
I checked the other hotwire connected to the solenoid and the problem
is there. This is the slightly larger gauge red wire headed to the
corner of the square connector headed to the backbox, it was late, I
didnt keep following it back to the boards.
Thinking about it this morning, am I correct in thinking that this is
the diagnostic switch that will fire all the solenoids when put in
test mode? and is for some reason constantly on?
Standard newbie disclaimer about my electronics abilities, beginner at
best. I can solder and desolder, but actual onboard work is probably
outside of my league.
Any hints on what to look for or leads to the answer would be greatly
appreciated!
Thanks.
Sounds like the "typical" blown transistor.
Hopefully you have the service manual for your pin. Find the
Darlington pair associated with that solenoid (I don't have a manual
so can't help you identifiy). They will be the Q numbers.
The Darlington pair is a pair of transistors, a switching transistor
and a power transistor that is used to complete the circuit for the
solenoid causing it to engage (fire).
One or both of those transistors have most likely failed. The
switching transistor is a 4401 I believe and the power transistor is a
TIP102 (or TIP122) typically.
You'll need to acquire replacements and do the swap. De-solder the
old ones and then put in the new ones. Looks more intimidating than
it really is.
