What you are stating does not make sense.
A populated Molex connector will hold on the original pins. If the
Molex connector is sliding off I suspect you are expecting the
connector housing to hold in place without the pins inserted. That
won't happen. If you install the trifurcon pins to the wires and then
into the Molex housing it will hold just fine. It does not matter if
the locking tabs are on the header row or not.
If I understood you correctly, the original IDC connector had a pass
through wire arrangement that jumpered to another pin. This is not a
condition you can crimp correctly into a trifurcon pin. You will need
to solder the two wires together and then solder a single extension
onto them and crimp that single wire into the trifurcon pin.
This is all easy with the right tools and parts. Sounds like you
don't have the right tools to do this. Have you offered to pay anyone
in your area to help you with this?

I have a Whirlwind where the wires going through the 10-pin connector
for the lighted tollway PCB were hacked. As a result the standard
Williams pass-through connection into the 10-pin Insulation
Displacement Connector is no longer an option because the wires were
cut and are now connected by a simple wire twist.
This re-joined wires were then "inserted" *into* the IDC Molex
connector and held on loosely by tape (did I mention this was a very
nice hack job). Obviously, since the wires are meant to go across the
connector and held by the "V", this did not hold.
With that said, the tollway PCB is in excellent shape, and the pins
and IDC connector appear new and in perfect condition. Thus, I am
reluctant to desolder this component and replace it with crimp-on pin
connectors, but will do so if that's my only option.
So, my question is, do they make crimp on connectors that retrofit
*into* the IDC housing, such that the wires would be held in place?
Thanks in advance,
Evan
No, they don't make one. Just replace the connector with a molex
connector with the same number of connections.- Hide quoted text -

I wish it were as easy as just replacing the connector with a true
Molex and putting trifurcons over the twisted wire pairs, but
unfortunately the new Molex connectors and the old pins on the PCB
don't play nice. The new Molex holes are larger than those on the
original IDC connectors so the Molex connector slides right off the
PCB pins. So, unfortunately it sounds like I'll have to desolder the
pins and replace the PCB side as well.
