That all depends if your friend actually hooked up the speaker jumper
to the internal speaker.  I recently did mine and didn't bother making
the connection.  You might want to ask if he did that.  Also if you
see the hard drive light acting as if it was loading the OS it could
be working.  Does this system also have an on-board video connection?

If it's not beeping AT ALL that means a larger problem. Fans spin up
because power gets applied. The computer goes through POST and if
everything is ok, it beeps once and then proceeds to boot the os.

No beep means no POST and a larger problem.

Do you know if it worked before this happened?

In any case I would throw a agp/pci video card in the one you think is
ruined and skip using the on board. Also to verify the beeps you can
check the manufacturers website on the beeps which happens after post
test. There is definitely a chance it might not beep multiple times
which is what a motherboard will typically do if something is wrong.
The amount of beeps depends on what is wrongs that they aren't always
the same issue.

In any case the video card option is the quickest and easiest way to
test/fix it. Let us know what you do, will do anything to help you
out. I have some older throw away cards if you need one let me know.
I know I have agp but would have to scrounge up if you only have
pci.

Also if all you need is the data on that drive, just piggy back it to
your secondary ide controller (Iset it to master if it's the only
device connected or slave if there is one already on it) or if it's on
the primary ide controller make sure you flip the jumper to slave.

Thanks, I appreicate the offer. This is my brand new computer, the
video card was $190. I need to get it going and want to keep it on the
high end. I had it built by a friend and it was just shipped to me.
He tested it and it was working, so either I screwed it up or shipping
it did something? But like I said, the video card fan is running so
it's getting power. I can't beleive I did something so stupid, I
think I jus flushed $200 down the toilet : (

Mark,

There is a very good chance the video card is not completely seated in
the slot.  Open up the case and remove the card and put it back in.
That is the first thing I would do.- Hide quoted text -

Not sure if he hooked up the internal speaker?  Not sure if this has
on-board video?
I won't be able to get a hold of him until tonight.  It does sound
like the OS is loading, but of course no beeps.
I appreciate the help, I think that I am going to stand in the corner
for awhile and have a good cry : (

Ack I posted something that seems like it didn't take. In anyt case
there could be damage as the weather lately could cause damage. Look
to see if there is a vga port on the back of the PC where all your
other ports are like usb, key/mouse etc... that is usually where it
is. if you have one, take out the card and try to hook it up to your
monitor. you could also remove and replace the jumper that controls
the bios settings. once you do this it resets everything to factory
defaults and it's not too hard to reconfigure anything if you would
even need to do that. do you have the manuals for all the parts?
