TECH: T2 Missing Ball Error

I just sold my T2 and the new owner called me with an issue that I had
never experienced. While playing a game the game will occassionaly
pop up a "missing pinball" error after a ball drains. He said that it
typically is after multiball is completed. With that said, it appears
to be difficult to duplicate. He said it happend on about 3 out of 5
games after setting the game up, but then didn't happen again after
several hours of continuous play. They thought the problem was gone,
but it happened a couple of times again this morning.
He has asked me to stop by and take a look at the machine. He is an
hour away, so I want to make the most of the trip. I am looking for
common issues to look for. I will check the switches in the ball
trough, but I don't know that anything will be obvious if it doesn't
happen frequently. It may be a wasted trip, but I know how
frustrating it can be having a new game that isn't working. It takes
the fun out of playing.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Nick
