Shows what I know... thought it was a triac or really flat goofy
transistor.
Thanks Martin... Placed my order earlier today. Oh, and found that
neat little glowing plastic protector for the Hunter Killer ship in
T2. Just had to get one of those! Curse you pinbits and your really
cool stuff!

I see everything you mentioned in sequence in your kit except the
"thyristor" Martin... what exactly is that?

Ok, I see lots written in here regarding the AFM strobe issues, but
none that just complete the total suspect parts replacement list.
I'm ordering the list from Pinbits (they rock!)http://pinbits.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13_11&produ...
I know the old strobe bulb, and the replacement from Pinbits both
work, (tested them both with an old 70's disco strobe box, at least
now I have a back-up lamp) so it's obviously another issue. The cap at
C2 is stressed, and the trigger is a bad egg according to every post
ever written. Not sure how to test that one...
Taking the list from Martin's site, are there any other parts to have
on hand for this board repair? I know the voltages (12 v DC & 50 v AC
on two pins) are all coming into the board, so I has to be an issue on
the board itself... ?
Again, not a techie, as I'm sure many of us aren't... I like the
"narrow it down, and then replace the prime suspects" kinda repairs..
Thanks!
From my experience on these, you start with the cap at C1. The strobe
should trigger if you short the top two legs of Q1 (the ones away from
the edge of the board) with a screwdriver. There should also be a tiny
spark. If that does not happen, then the trigger transform is the frst
suspect, followed by the orange caps.
Once those are replaced, the screwdriver trick should cause sparks and
flashes. If it does but the board still does not work, then it is the
opto and thyristor up next.- Hide quoted text -

Three legged thing, looks like a transistor, to the right of the opto.
It is the electronic switch that fires the trigger transformer.- Hide quoted text -
