I keep seeing all of these posts where people are changing out regular
bulbs to LED's. The two benefits I can see are less heat and prolonged
bulb life.
What are the other advantages? Is the cost for time and materials
worth it? I am assuming it is a fairly labor intensive project, yes?
Also, are people seling complete kits athat are game specific?

Jeff,
There is 5 reasons for LEDs
1.) Generates less heat inserts, plastics, domes etc. Even having the
game on for a hour a week will cause some insert wear. Its the cycling
not the constant heat that does in inserts ( heat up and cool down
cycle). The glue expands and contracts. Touch a 44 bulbs some time.
especially if they have silvered.
2.) Less amperage through the boards, 85-90% less amps throught the
boards, transformer, etc.
3.) longevity, 50,000-100,000 hrs life time, replacing that hard to
reach bulb that keeps going out.
4.) shock resistant, see above
5.) Save you approx 2+amps of power per machine if you replace all the
bulbs with LEDs. if you have a large collection and want to keep them
on house circuit 15-20 amps you can get more that 3-4 on a circuit at
a time. 2 amps( x 110 volt =220 watts heat per machine) not going into
heat also to raise your airconditioning bills in the summer
Other benefit is the colors are more vibrant and bright since they are
putting more light energy of that color through the corresponding
colored insert, dome, plastic than a standard incandescent bulb can
do.
Again colors are subjective to what you like in you game. I been doing
LEDs for 3 years now and it is the future for preserving the games and
being green.
