Re: OT Your not going to believe this.

It's the big 3: Panasonic, Samsung or Sony. Most Panasonics seem to be
plasmas which may risk burn-in if you're playing a lot of games on them.
LCD is the other option, definitely not rear projection. There can be a
pretty big difference in quality between models, but I wouldn't buy
anything other than these brands. Just my $.02.

Hey!

I'll be in the market real soon for a big screen TV.
OK, in your opinion, so what is a good type and brand?
Looking in the 50" range. LCD flat screen seems to be where I'm headed
now.
Still awaiting the organic LED TV's to appear...I think the new laser TV's
will beat them. Not gonna hold my breath for either of these as they may
still be a few years down the road.

Don't really want a rear projection screen like one of the new LCD or DLP
projections. Nor do I want front projection. The lamps on these seem to
have short lifespans for a TV that will be on nearly 24 hours per day
every day.

My neighber just gave me a 60 inch toshiba big screen tv. I saw a
truck pull up in front of his house and they took in a huge plasma tv
but they didnt set it up. Later he comes over and asks if I would
help him set the tv up. It took all of 10 minutes and when we were
done he asks me if I want the old one. I said I didnt really have a
place for it and I didnt have any spare cash to buy it from him right
now so I would have to pass. He says no, you can have it. If you dont
want it im going to give it away. I asked him if he minded me taking
it to put my video games on and he said sure lets get it over there.
My son and I are playing WII on it now. Cool huh

Later dudes

That's great man! I hope you didn't ruin the moment by bringing up a
bizarre conspiracy theory.

Your neighbor is really generous!

I'm in the TV business and all day people want to give me their TVs
(trash). I finally decided trash pickup costs money so I'll charge
too. You can give me all the TVs you want for $10 each. This week I
got a couple plasmas, a couple LCDs, a DLP big screen, various
regular CRT sets, and a few combo DVD/VCR/TV plus an extra $100 or so
to boot. Nice to be in the "trash business" I guess if you can get $$.
All big screens are damn garbage. Wait till your neighbor finds out
what it costs to repair a plasma TV. $600 minimum *if* you can buy the
parts, and parts are available for about 3 yrs after the set is built
on a reputable manufacturer, zero on the junk brands. Lucky if it
lasts that long as they run about 150 degree C temps and parts are all
Chinese and rated at 105 degrees or 85 degrees for the most part, but
use all Chinese capacitors that are optomistic in their ratings to say
the least and they use a thousand of them. One good thing if you live
in the Yukon Territory, you can simply watch TV to heat your house in
the winter. Thanks to modern digital technology it now takes 30 100
pin ICs and 200 capacitors to do the same job as a single IC did in an
old analog CRT set. What DAMN CRAP. My vent for the day, 80 screws to
take the back off a plasma TV. Now that is REAL necessary there. Ok,
rant over until work tomorrow morning.
