Very true, Korn, but the outlet still has to be grounded to the metal
box with the use of a ground wire.  You still can't just hook up your
hot and neutral and screw it in place.  Unless you use self grounding
outlets.

When asking for electical advice, there are just too many particulars
that need to be known in order to give the correct answer.  That's why
you need someone local to look at your particular situation.

There is one situation where not having a ground wire is OK, and that's
if all the electric is run inside metal conduit.  In that case, the
conduit acts as the ground return, so no third wire is necessary.  (Also
makes a great nail guard! :) )

I'm pretty sure armored BX also falls into this category, but I'm sure
Bryan can confirm or repudiate that.

Thanks BK.

I contacted the electrician and he really didn't seem to concerned
about any of it. He says the 3 prong outlets will be changed to 2
prongs where ground can't easily be hooked up, and GFI outlets will be
installed in the kitchen and bathrooms.

He said a 100 amp service upgrade would run 1800. Yikes.
