Reset everything, pull the batteries, factory defaulted everything. No
custom message.... Still bad... Now the time being displayed is from 39
minutes ago...

No, it's displaying a time from approx 7 hours and 29 minutes ago.
When I display the time, it will never change on the display, but in
the setup menu it keeps time perfectly.
Go in and delete the custom message some jackass put in that looks like
the
time / date?
(I'd also pull the batteries for a few minutes to reset everything.)
