Being a graduate student of the Art Institute of Dallas. It was taught
to us by our instructors that 300 dpi is the industry standard for
printing. Anything above that is simply causing the file to be larger
and doesn't improve the quality of the printed image.
You'd almost think that projects that were larger would have to be at
a higher resolution since they are bigger. However that is not the
case, for most large format printing (ie: posters, billboard, etc).
Printing is done at 150 dpi or lower. That being said...I can agree
that the playfields that Stern has printed are probably infact done at
150 Dpi. I can't prove that...but it wouldn't surprise me.
Oh how I'd love to work for their art department. ...sigh
I've developed many flyers and magazine ads for publication that were
designed at 300 dpi...they look great. anything else is waste of file
size, thus resulting in the file taking longer to load and print.
