Re: BH Chase Lights - stutter and lockup

As Fred mentioned, it sounds like a cap issue.  Has the 12v cap in the
bottom of the cab changed out yet?  If so, check the caps on the aux.
lamp board.

Yes, run a wire from the power supply frame / heat sink to the ground
strip at the bottom of the cab.  This will satisfy a solid ground,
provided that the power supply is grounded to its frame / heat sink, and
the other new ground connections from other boards are solid.

Another issue to figure out on my BlackHole work...although the game
is playing strong and fast.
When the game is turned on, the Chase Lights run very nicely. but then
after a minute or two, they begin to 'stutter' and then finally
freeze.
If I turn the game off and on, they are still frozen.
If I turn the game off and wait about 30 seconds, the lights will run
for a few seconds and freeze.
If I turn the game off for about 5 min, the lights run for a minute or
so before locking up.

Interestingly, there are 3 chase lights running around the frame, not
4 as I had just assumed.
And they are so mezmerizing when looking from an angle with the
infinity mirror effect.

The game still plays without these lights running, of course.
I tried to add the extra ground wire, but only to the mounting frame
of the power supply board.

Just to confirm, where is the main additional ground wire for BH best
run since all boards are linked to the mounting bracket for the power
supply.  Is one to be run from this bracket to the bottom cabinet,
near the transformer?
If this is not done yet, perhaps my new ground wire on the chase light
board is ineffective.

Thoughts?

Sounds to me like a chip is heating up on the board and is causing the
board to lock up. It if freezes in different places I would expect U5
the 555 timer or U1 gate. If it freezes in the same spot every time I
would expect U3 the decade counter.
