I was thinking that it was incandescent lights - obviously, it is uses
LEDs wired back to back. Therefore, the resistor should have about 3V
across it.

The single diode won't work (personal experience here); half of the lights on.
the ship don't work with a diode in series, depending on which way the diode
is wrired. I went with a 10 Ohm resistor in series, and that seems to work
well.

Thanks Martin. I was thinking about using a pair or two of
piggybacked diodes for Vf drop only and keep the other half cycle.
I'll try the single diode first, since its a lot simpler.

I think that those bulbs are designed for 2.5V. A diode in series
(either way around) should do the trick, between the Vf drop and the
elimination of a half cycle.

Last time I installed a Hallmark Klingon ship (a few years back), I
figured the GI AC voltage would be about right so I wired it directly
to the GI lights on the ship. =A0Within minutes the ship got really hot
and smelled of smoke, so I snipped the wires and was done with it.
I'm working on another STTNG now and would like to complete this mod.
I've read a couple of posts in RGP by people claiming to have wired to
the GI lights with no problems. =A0Anyone have any long term test
experience? =A0Alternative wiring method?
Thanks
John
