I just started restoring a WMS Hot Tip.
I got this without any displays. I picked up a set of displays from a
Firepower. Will they work in an older game?
I don't have schematics for this game. On the left hand side of the
driver board there are 30 something transistors. One is blown along
with the 3 fried resistors in that circuit. Can all of the transistors
be replaced with a TIP102? What types are the SCRs and the resistors?
I think they are all the same.
Schematics available on marvin3m.com/fix amongst other places, the driver board was essentially the same from system 3-system 7. The displays 'should' work but there's something in Hot Tip to do with 300 volts from the transformer to the displays - I don't think the 300 volt line is needed to actually light the displays, if there's a fuse for it you can probably pull it.
I've gone through Clay's site and I have rebuilt the power supply and
got all the correct readings, but I have not powered up the game yet.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can try and boot the game with the
fuses to the playfield removed and work on getting the CPU to boot
without fixing the driver board yet. I only want to make one parts
order if possible.
Do you have a Leon test chip? Invaluable with testing this era of board..... although I'm not having too much luck with my current project (phoenix) - although I just read on Clay's guides that the PIA test is not 100% on the driver board so that's what I'll be replacing today.....
