Has anyone experimented with what LEDs most closely resemble the
lighting of the original 44s?  How about flashers?  I'd like to
convert all my wedgeheads over to LEDs in the head to minimize heat/
stress on the bg ink and/or sealant but want to preserve the original
look of the lighting.  Thanks in advance for any inputs.

Just had a talk about this subject w/Bruce fromBC's pinball
amusements.  Seems like a super knowledgable guy.  Might be worth a
call to talk to him for more info.  www.bcspinball.com

Yeah, Bruce emailed me earlier and said he had LEDs that output the
same light color as 44 and 47 bulbs and give off no heat what so
ever.  If their spectra is truly indistinguishable from the
incandescents, I'd give them a try but I seem to remember that even
the "warm white" and "natural white" LEDs still lack the warmth (in
their look, not heat) of the regular bulbs.  I'll revisit it but am
inclined to stay with the lamps (for EMs at least).

Cliff,

Something else to consider would be an LED's dispersion pattern. I
have seen LEDs that have a very tight illumination area and may appear
as hotspots behind a BG.
