positive, as in maney magazines, their are thing I read and thing I

give it His best shot.

My GR subscription ran out. I still get PGJ though, but mostly
because jim calls me to bother me to resubscribe. they are
both good mags, and the only ones we have in the hobby.
so i should be better about supporting them both.
the problem i have with both mags (especially Gameroom mag)
is the lack of "fact checking". Nearly every article i read is
clock full of errors (and i don't mean spelling either). it's
like they only have a "general" editor that corrects format
and spelling. but no one that actually checks facts stated
in the articles (especially the history or technical articles).
When reading Gameroom it's like, Ok i'm past 10 errors
in 10 mintues, do i keep reading this thing or just laugh
about it?
Ideally it would be good if the editors of these magazines
were more involved in the hobby on a technical or fact
basis. Or if they had tech editors to double check things.
I mean once it's printed, it's out there and you can't pull
it back. it would really bother me if i knew i printed incorrect
statements or data (this is why i stick to web based stuff
that i can correct when i screw up!) Having another set of eyes
on the articles would be a good thing for both of these mags.
PGJ seems better about the facts, i see less errors per page
than Gameroommagazine.
it makes me wonder though, when you read popular
mechanics for example, how accurate are those articles?
Clay, "nearly every article is clock full of errors" is a bit of an
extreme exaggeration, don'tcha think? (Not to mention being erroneous
itself ;-)
When you're cranking out a 68-page magazine by yourself each month,
there will be occasional typos and errors. There are certainly nowhere
near the number of factual errors that you're insinuating, not by a
long shot -- I do my best to run things by people who can help spot
mistakes, both technical and typographical. I don't like errors, and I
certainly do my best to prevent them. I've offered to let you fact-
check issues, as well as write reviews and even offered to publish
your rebuttals, but so far you've refused.
I'm always looking for a good technical editor and/or columnist, which
I haven't had since *** Donlan retired from writing. If you've (or
anyone else reading this) have any suggestions or would like to
volunteer, please email me (and yes, I do pay ;-) -- kevin "at"
