Rubber post caps dry out and can shed a lot more than nylon cap nuts :)
But, they don't provide the 'give' the rubber post caps do, which I've
thought might help save plastics
I have proved (accidentally) that the rubber caps DO give. I put them on
the slings on my TO when I brought it to expo. Over the course of four
days, I replaced the sling rubber caps somewhere between 10-15 times. Each
time the plastic had blown the rubber cap completely off and usually had
enough momentum to start rotating around the upper post. I'll take popping
a rubber cap over a busted sling plastic *ANY* day. Or even multiple times
a day, as was at expo! :)
Now whenever I'm shopping out a machine, unless it's a structural element
(such as holding down a habitrail), ALL nylon nuts get chucked and replaced
with rubber caps. They're so dirt cheap in comparison to the plastics that
it simply doesn't make sense NOT to!

Mine hardly ever pop off since I bought new ones. They should stay on
and even though you can just push them on it really helps to screw
them on, it forms a bit more to the threading that way. Also I would
think you'd break more plastics with them spinning aroung off the post
and getting bashed around and scratching the playfield as well.
