Re: Xenon Issues

A couple of lamps don't work - checked bulbs and scr's on lamp board
which check out fine. One light is the upper most top left light that
is wired with red wire and beige wire:

Bally is notorious for using crappy sockets in their games. The old
aluminum pressed together 44 type sockets failed due to age and
corrosion, so they switched to 555 sockets. these were prone to
contacts inside getting bent, the solder on tabs breaking. Also the
old lamps used back in those days often had leads that corroded or
broke easily. I have a simpe lamp tester I use when working on Bally
games that I use to verify that the circuit works up to the lamp
socket. It consists of a bulb, socket, one lead with an alligator clip
(hook on to the common 5.4v line) and the other is a wire with a
probe. I test under the playfield to see if SCR and wiring is good.
Saves me time.

Also the lights behind the #3 & #4 drop targets never turn on.
According to the schematics these are controlled on the lamp board and
are shared with the button switch lights on the top of the playfield.
Those lights on the top work. So the scr isn't at fault... right? Also
those drop targets score correctly and the bank resets correctly.

Again, check the wiring/sockets.

Can someone with a Xenon verify that I have the left flipper coil
wiring correct:
1 green wire  to the far left lug, 1 brown wire to the middle lug, 3
brown wires to the far right lug

looks right to me. Green to the left flipper left lug, orange to the
right flipper left lug. Middle lug goes to the eos switch, right lug
goes to the other side of the eos switch and has the common 43 v power
all tied into it. This is the same for all Bally games from that era.
in the picture you included, all diode bands should be on the right
side, so bands are away from the non-brown wire

Also the power plug has its ground cut off. Should I rewire with new
plug and use ground. Was the gound cut off because there were
grounding issues in the machine or because they had no wall outlet
with ground?

I would. If you plug this in without the ground pin into an outlet
next to another game that has the ground pin, touch both metal lock
down bars. Fun! I've metered the difference between two before and got
a reading as high as 75v. It's low current so it won't harm you, but
it'll get yr attention.

I have the Alltek MPU, Alltek Solenoid Board, Alltek Lamp Board
installed. Also I have a new rectifier board installed.

never used any of the other Altek stuff than the MPU, and never in a
Xenon. Altek's have all gone into customer games & they haven't
complained yet. Hope that helps,
