Re: Tech: JP Sound Issue?

Re-reading my original message, I didn't explain this correctly.

I should have said that the game loses music, but its sounds still
function. Then, after a while the sounds cut out too. And then the
music cut in. And out. And so do the sounds.

I rarely lose all sound, I just lose *part* of the sound in all three
speakers at the same time. Or at least I did. I checked in on this
topic, and while the laptop was loading played two games, including
setting a new high score (woo hoo!) without the sound doing anything
odd. Just in case it recrops up:

Have you tried all the typical fixes?

- Reseat all connectors to your sound board. (This isn't a permanent
fix, but might tell you where your problem is.)

Did this. Yesterday, it didn't change anything.

- Reflow solder on the header pins of your sound board. (A better
solution would be to replace your connectors, but it's tough to
recommend that when we don't yet know where the problem is.)

Haven't done this yet, but obviously I don't know if this is where the
issue is. All connectors look great.

- Check to make sure you have solid contact at the speaker terminals.

Very much so.

- Check to make sure that there is no problem with the wiring between
the sound board and the speakers.

Checked and solid.

One thing you didn't share is whether the sound is missing in all
three speakers or just in the backbox. If all three are going out, it
likely is something further upstream, like the sound board. If it is
just the backbox that is losing sound or just the cabinet speaker,
then I'd think it must be related to the connection from the sound
board to the speakers.

Yup, it goes from all three. But like I said, it's only parts of
them, which is what is driving me nuts about it. Like it seems to be
a chip issue, but they work more than they don't, and it definitely
isn't everything that is lost, or even the same stuff one time after
another. Who knows, maybe it just decided to freak out since I
actually decided that it was time to play a game again, instead of
just working on them. JP gets lonely because it and VND are the only
two games that I have that I play regularly that actually seem to work
most of the time.
