Steve, I don't mean to sound like a dumbass here but how do you tell
if a switch is conducting, I have a multimeter.
By this I just mean that the switch contacts are clean and touching so
current can flow through. First make sure the contacts are visibly
touching. Then, with the power off and your meter on continuity or
resistance, place your leads on the switch terminals. You should hear
a buzz if your meter has that, or should see zero (or very close to
it) ohms resistance.
Or with the power on you can measure for zero volts AC across the
switch terminals as Al suggested. An even better voltage check would
be to place the black lead on the black wire on the Reset relay coil,
and measure the voltage diffence from there to a few other points.
First put the red lead on the yellow wire on the Coin relay switch.
You should see (approximately) 24 volts between this and the black
wire. If not, you've got a loose wire somewhere. If this is good,
move the red lead to each of the following places in order until you
don't read 24 volts anymore. The Coin relay should be energized when
you take the reading, and the Game Over relay should be in the Tripped
position. The text in parentheses explains what would cause the
voltage difference to be missing at that step.
1. Orange-Red wire on the same Coin relay switch (switch open or
dirty)
2. Orange-Red wire on Game Over relay switch (loose or broken Orange-
Red wire)
3. Blue-White wire on Game Over relay switch (switch open or dirty)
4. Blue-White wire on Reset relay coil (loose or broken Blue-White
wire)
The coin relay causes the score motor to turn a half turn and that's
all that happens. If I manually set off the reset relay the score
motor will turn another half turn and the score reels will try to
reset.
Do the score reels successfully reset, or do they just try to reset?
If you place all score reels on one and activate the Reset, do they
reset to zero, or do they stop at six or some other number? Does the
Reset relay remain energized until the motor stops moving?
I have the game over switch tripped and the contacts are
touching but Idon't know how to tell if they're conducting. If I
manually move the leaf switch your talking about (open / close) I
don't get any sparks and nothing happens. I checked all wires on the 3
switches involved and nothing seems loose, all solder joints appear
solid.
Everyone, I do have schematics but am not an electrician and don't
really know how to read them though I probably could figure it out.
Thanks again everyone.

It appears that the reset relay is not energizing. Nothing happens
with it. If I put a score on the reels and start a game the coin relay
will energize and turn the score wheel a half turn. The reset relay
does nothing, the coil does not energize. If I manually trip it the
score reels will reset to zero and the score wheel will turn the other
half turn and stop. It appears that a blue/orange wire runs the coil
for the reset relay, if I can figure out where the wire originates, I
figure that I could check that switch. It also has a solid red
(replacement wire) going to the other coil lug. Do they originate at
the scoring wheel? The schematics are really confusing to me.- Hide quoted text -

Walt,
Using the schematic, locate the coil for the reset relay. The switches
between it and the distant solenoid bus wire are what needs to be
closed to enable that relay. Using a clip lead, you can sequentially
bypass those to isolate your problem.
If you refer to the instruction manual, it will describe the start/
reset sequence. The manual will also display the start and reset
relays and show the funtion of each switch contact set.

Okay, if I run a bypass wire from the orange/red of the coin relay to
the blue/white or the reset relay I get the score reels to reset and
the reset coil will energize but the score wheel only turns a half
turn. A little progress. I'm starting to finally see how the
schematics work. Someone highlighted that part of the schematic so I
guess there was always a problem with this part of the machine. The
schematics listed it as going from the coin relay to the game over
relay to the reset coil if I'm reading it right.
