Let me guess: math isn't one of your strong subjects?  :)

8ms response means the display changes within 8 milliseconds.  That is
1/125th of a second.  Assuming a 60hz refresh rate (standard for most
LCDs), the screen is being redrawn every 1/60th of a second.  Which
means the 8ms response is actually faster than the PC is refreshing
the screen.  Which means your theory is bunk - the image on the screen
will never be behind the actual image in the framebuffer.

Sadly, I have an intensive math and embedded software background but
never bothered to do that calculation - although I think there is a
bit more to it - either way I'll find out.

Ultrapin sucks because the software sucks.  It sounds like the
original poster played one of the early ones that really sucked
(supposedly later releases cut the delay down a little?) .. but trust
me, that delay is all about the Ultrapin program, not the screen.

I always get worried when I hear "trust me" and this is no exception.
The software in Upin *is* the Vpin software. But now I'm starting to
wonder if the flipper input signal is polled rather than setup as an
interrupt. This would certaily cause a delay as well. Regardless,
I'm going to look into this further and will post my findings.

Pinmame has similar issues with complex tables.

Pinmame does not have this specific issue at all. It does have issues
related to both the paging file size and direct draw acceleration that
can cause choppy ball movement or the program not even running at all.

filled with real machines.  But I do enjoy the fact that we have room
in the arcade section for UltraPin which is now setup to *simulate*

Ahh I see.. defending your purchase ;)

You lost me on this one. I bought it because I like it - nothing to
"defend".
