Be happy to contribute content from the machines in my collection and
some opinions as I've dabbled in this.
Very important to decide on standards for resolution, etc. so that you
have a consistent look and feel across the site, and a desired maximum
length for each clip, else you'll end up with way too much content to
house and painful downloads.
I would bet that ipdb would be happy to host, except for the amount of
Storage involved. I couldn't even guess the size of their Database
today and it's absolutely loaded with all sorts of machines and brand
names including coin-op, shooters, etc.
I manage Storage for a living for a large Wall Street financial firm
and I can tell you that though prices have come down considerably (and
density improved), once we start talking video, it goes really fast,
and up too does the price tag.
If you want an example, hop on over to my site (www.emwhite.org); then
click on Roto Pool Pics at the top of the page. After suffering
through 'loading' of the two quicktime videos, have a look at the 2nd
one (player/ball view). That file is 1 minute long and is 6.8
megabytes in size. The resolution that I downsized to was 480x272
using the H.264 Codec. Granted, it was an HD source and the size
could be made quite a bit smaller but my point is that we should
establish standards to keep quality acceptable and video size
manageable.
Looking forward to seeing if something can be put together on this...
