Re: TECH: Bally Solenoid Driver Board - 2 issues - Target reset and outhole kicker

If you ground the tabs on the proper driver transistor and the
corresponding solenoid does not fire, you have a wire or connector
issue. Grounding the transistor tabs does NOTHING to test the driver
circuitry. All it does is verify the connection between the
transistor's collector to the board's header pins, and then the
connection between the header pins and the coil. I guess there's a
slight chance in hell that the transistor is so blown out that the
heat sink tab is no longer connected to the corresponding transistor
lead, but I doubt it. Verify the connection between the board and the
coil w/ your meter's continuity checker. You should find continuity
from the transistor tab, all the way to the coil tab that's connected
to the non-banded side of the coil. Also check the solder joints on
the board's header pins, and the connector pins. Look for corroded
pins, loose wires, etc. Same w/ the solder joint on the non-banded
side of the coil.

Hi all.

Working on a Flash Gordon. Seems that the 3 in line targets won't
reset. Also, the kicker hole kicks up and down. I get it to kick up
fine. However the coil to kick down is a no go.

So far, I started grounding the proper Transistor tabs to the side
rails and can't get the targets or outhole kicker to kick down. I then
grounded the lugs (non-banded side) on each coil and they both kicked.
So I knew the coils are good. Both have 45vdc on each coil lug. Could
it be the U1 pre-driver IC? The in line targets and the kick down
outhole kicker both go to the U1 transistor. Any advice aside from
replace?
