1) Even though you have new parts, be sure diodes are good on the coil. Then
I'd check the traces to and from the transistor that drives that coil for
breaks, they can be hard to detect but can raise problems with that coil.

Installed the special LOTR coils from Terry at Pinballlife.com, makes a
big difference - can shoot the ring again! But I do have a few questions
to help me get this game 100%.
1) Before the coil swap, would blow the 3A slow-blow left flipper fuse
(never the right side) periodically. I was surprised to find that I blew
a left flipper fuse some time after doing the install of the new flipper
coils! Checked the new left flipper coil immediately after it blew (early
in a test game shortly after a power on), and found that the coil was
barely more than room temp at the time, certainly not warm or hot. What
could cause this problem such that it would continue even after a flipper
coil replacement? No loose wires on the flipper coil by the way, and it
is installed correctly.
2) Quite a few shots to the ring ramp "bounce off" the ring instead of
entering it. I adjusted the ring ramp to point straight at the ring (was
pointing a bit to the left), but I think a number of the ring shots are
bouncing off the top edge of the clear plastic ring funnel. Maybe due to
the stronger flippers now. Is there a way to adjust either the "up/down"
angle of the ring ramp, or the orientation of the clear plastic ring
funnel and perhaps also the ring magnet itself to bring the ring ramp and
the ring into better alignment?
3) I am running version 6 software. But I have the version 10 Display
and CPU ROMs. My question is, how do I know if I need to do the sound
board OS upgrade to 8.0? I don't have the special chip needed for that.
I'd like to get to version 10 to see if the flipper code enhancements help
with my left flipper fuse problem.
Thanks,
Roy
