doesnt finish start up sequence.
score motor runs about 7 seconds then stops.
could an open switch on the score motor itself cause this?
if so ill put it out and turn by hand to make sure all switches operate properly.
No, do not do this as a first step.
When an EM pin does not finish the reset cycle it rarely has anything to do with the imting motor (assuming all the switches on the timing motor are good), rather it is some circuit in the game that has not reset properly: Drums, Player Unit, Ball Count, Bonus Unit, or Coin Unit. All of these (depending on the game) must reach a point of reset for the game to continue the cycle to then release the ball.
So - are all the Drum Units @ "0", do all the step up units reset to home position easily (perhaps dried grease/oil makes them slow or gummy?) and so on.
Now, the timing motor does have run-out switches, but it sounds like yours is performing correctly in that it does stop. On the other hand if a circuit on the timing motor is not correct then it might be stopping prematurely - however it is more like one of the above items are at fault so check them first.
If you know how to clean and adjust switches correctly - then you might want to tackle the job of inspecting EVERY switch/contact in the game to be sure they are all clean and set correctly, but if you do not know how to do this then you will make matters FAR worse by adjusting things you do not understand. Please understand at this moment I have no ide of your knowledge level with EMs but based on yoru question I have to assume you are new to this.
Fear not! Help is on the way! Many of the posters here love EM pins and are willing to help you out as long as you continue to keep within the thread you have started and post what you have and have not done so we can trace the history of your problem.
