Williams system 9 & system 11 compatibility

Hello all,

I was wondering if William's System 11 machines were backward
compatible. Long story short, if I have a Williams Pinbot (which is a
System 11 game) and I obtained a Space Shuttle MPU and Playfield,
would they swap out? Or better yet can the Roms swap out into the
System 11 MPU?

I know this would be the case if the two machines were the same
System, but I am not 100% sure how it works with or if there is
backward compatibility.

Thanx,

E.
