I am glad that I bought tons of IC's back in the early 90's directly
from the manufacture that made them. I just confirmed a rumor to be
true. Somewhere overseas they are scrubbing ic's and re-screening them
with part numbers that do not co-incide with the chips function. Ex.
14 pin 7420 was scrubbed and re-screened as a 7404 IC. As long as the
chip has the same profile and pin count, they are putting whatever
part number they need on them to sell them. A very large IC broker
company in the US just got scammed from these bogus overseas
counterfeits. The company has already confirmed that the 6800( FAMILY
OF CPU IC's ) is being counterfitted and THEY DO NOT WORK. IN FACT, It
was reported that damage to many other componets occured when the
bogus CPU was installed in the circuit. I fell victum this week to
counterfiet TMS2532 chips. The chips I received were brand new with a
2005 TI date code and do not program. The company ( NAMELESS )
confirmed they are bogus because TI no longer manufactured these IC's
in 2005. I would love to know what the IC's I have were before they
were reclassified as TMS2532A-JL's.
BE VERY CAREFULL WHAT YOU BUY AND MAKE SURE YOU TEST EVERY IC BEFORE
YOU STORE THEM AWAY. YOU MAY HAVE JUNK AND BE IN A REAL BIND WHEN YOU
NEED THE IC TO FIX A BOARD.
