I am about to do the same thing
but when I remove the mechanics of each part (eg Pop Bumpers) I am
going to leave the solenoid soldered in place and use a cable tie to

even though I have taken lots of pictures I know it will be a good 6
months before I am ready to put it back together, I am trying to give
myself every advantage
1) Put Molex connectors on every solenoid.makes the harness way easier
to handle, and you won't be soldering inside the machine when you
reassemble. And you can keep the coils with the mechanisms.
2) Lots of pictures.
3) Wash the harness in the tub with hot water and Mean Green or
equivalent. Use compressed air to blow out sockets and stuff.
4) Buy a bunch of plastic shoeboxes. Use them to keep playfield layers
and components together. Clean one box of parts at a time and transfer
them to a clean box.
5)Lots of pictures.
