For me, just replacing the items in the kit does the job.
If you want to replace them, I would do the kit first. Why introduce more potential troubleshooting problems.
Do you have the Hakko 808?
If you do the HV swap takes about 30 minutes tops.

Hi folks..
I'm eagerly anticipating some components to arrive for rebuilding the
HV on my DMD driver board.
Today I started removing the components on the list, which went fine.
However...
There are three disc capacitors on mine that all read <TI .1Z
500V>, they are C6, C9 and C10. According to the schematic I have,
those caps are described to be 1800pF, 220pF, and 33pF respectively.
(these capacitors are located between the 4.7K ceramic resistor and
some header pins).
Again, my three are identical. Is this a previous hack or are those
capacitors the ones that belong in those positions? The solder points
appear original , but you never know... The board was tested with one
of the piggyback HVP boards and tested OK, and these caps not part of
the HV so I guess they are functioning OK, but since I'm in there
anyway I thought I'd change these if it's recommended for some reason.
Maybe I'm just a little paranoid. I have been know to go overboard
from time to time.
Thanks
