Re: cab stencil painting- how much time between coats/colors?

Dan:

The base coat and the repairs underneath it are the most important.
The drying time depends on the paint and the environment.

The vinyl stencils that I used to make had a sticky but removable
adhesive. Any weak spots (e.g. semi-dry paint, poorly adhering filler)
could come up when the vinyl stencils were removed.

The improved material that I use now is about as sticky as a post-it
note, so the adhesion of the base coat is still important, but not
as critical.

As for the stencil colors, those coats tend to be thinner, and if the different
paints are compatible (as they shoud be), you can proceed very quickly.

I did a seminar in Allentown in 2006 where I painted a 1/4 scale model
of a Black Knight cabinet in a 30 minute seminar. The black base coat
was prepared in advance, but the Krylon spray can paint dried in a few
minutes.

Alright

I am taking the plunge. After procrastinating for many months, I have
my cab stripped and sanded, ready for painting and stenciling. But the
all important question....

How long between coats and colors?

It's a Black Knight. I am going to be spraying a gray primer, then
black base, then two colored stencils (red and yellow)

I know on Jeff's site, he had his start to finish time as almost a
month. Reading Pinball Pal's info- the job sounds more like an
afternoon.

I feel like I've read every thread on the subject, too, but haven't
really gotten a grasp of how long is too long or how short is too
short as far as dry times. I am sticking with all the same brand-
Painter's Touch- start to finish. So no compability problems.

Any thoughts on how long I ought to wait from primer to base to
stencil to stencil?

Thanks
