Re: JM hand update

Thanks for the info john! It has been narrowed down to either the
gear box or the motor (I have removed the screw and nut from the
equation, and still getting the nasty squeal. I am going to remove
the motor and check first, but I think it is the gear box.

Thanks again!

I have opened one of these up, but it's been a long time. Removing the 2
screws was all it took.

A good guide to gearbox refurb:

Just go slow, and note the orientation and quantity of spacers etc. Also,
after removing the gearbox, before you open it up, put a 9 volt battery
across the terminals, then reverse it and make sure the noise is really in
the gearbox.

Since the 2 gearboxes are identical, you have a 'backup' in case something
doesn't go back together correctly - just open the other and verify part
locations.

I think I know a guy who parted one of these if you get desperate. Drop me a
line and I'll check with him and put you in touch if he has them.

So I completely cleaned and re-assembled my JM hand mech. I checked
the Ball In Hand switch (no problems) I am getting continuity on the
wires for the magnet. However, I am getting a HORRIBLE screeching
noise from my gearbox. Since it seems these are NLA, I am going to
have to take mine apart and see what the problem is.

How exactly are these held together? The gearbox for the forward
movement does have what seems to be 2 bolts holding it together. Is
it safe to assume there is some sort of gasket too? Does anybody have
some pics or a guide to working on one of these? Since they seem to
be hard to find, I would rather not destroy mine trying to fix it :)
